Risk & Safety Management
The Risk and Safety Management Division administers the City's property, liability, workers compensation insurance and self-insurance programs, as well as the City's safety and loss program.
The Risk and Safety Management Division handles claims against the City as well as property claims on and for City-owned property.
Claims Against the City
If you believe you have a claim against the City, you may want to contact your own insurance company about coverage. If your insurance company believes that the City is liable, it may settle the claim with you and then seek reimbursement from the City.
If you are considering filing a claim against the City yourself, Colorado state law requires that any person claiming to have suffered an injury or property damage by a public entity, or by an employee of a public entity acting in the course of their employment, file a written notice within 182 days after the date the person discovers the injury or damage.
If you believe you have a reason to file a claim against the City, you will need to complete and submit the following Claim Form and return it to the Risk and Safety Management Division (see note).
The Claim Form must be completed in its entirety. It must include at least the following:
- A clear statement that you are filing a claim against the City of Arvada
- A short description of the incident
- Details surrounding the incident including
- Date
- Time
- Location of the incident
- Type and extent of damages
- Estimates for repairs or actual cost of items damaged
- Police report number if applicable
- Your current mailing address and phone numbers for both the daytime and evening hours
- Copies of any bills, estimates, or documents that apply to your claim
- Your signature.
Please email the completed form to [email protected] or mail it to the City of Arvada addressed as follows:
City of Arvada
Attention: Risk and Safety Management
8101 Ralston Road
Arvada, CO 80002
Once your Claim Form has been submitted you will be contacted by the Risk and Safety Management Division.
Please note: Submission of a Claim Form does not guarantee payment by the City or its insurance carriers. An investigation by a claims adjuster will be made to determine if the City has any liability as determined by applicable laws. You may be contacted by a claims adjuster. These investigations will be conducted as expeditiously as possible. If it is determined that the City will pay a claim, the amount of the claim payment is based on the level of City liability, the level of your liability (if any), and the depreciated value (not replacement value) of the property damaged. If you have contacted the City in an emergency, the Operations and Maintenance crew or other City employees may assist you as a public service. This assistance does not constitute an admission of liability on the part of the City.
