Flood Insurance

Just a few inches of water can cause tens of thousands of dollars in property damage. Flood insurance is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from financial loss.

About Flood Insurance

  • Flood insurance is available through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
  • This Federal program provides flood insurance to property owners in exchange for the careful management of flood-prone areas by local communities.
  • Costs vary depending on how much insurance you buy, what it covers, and your property's flood risk.
  • Regular homeowner's insurance does not cover damage caused by floods.

Steps to Getting Flood Insurance

  1. Find out if your property is located in a floodplain via this searchable map or by calling the Engineering Division at 720-898-7640.
  2. If your property is in a floodplain, contact your insurance agent. Arvada residents are eligible for a discount on insurance premiums (more information below).
  3. Generally, there is a 30-day waiting period for your policy to take effect.
  4. For more information on flooding and flood insurance, visit the Floodsmart website or contact your insurance agent.

Insurance Discounts

Arvada holds a Class 5 Rating by the NFIP's Community Rating System (CRS). This rating provides a 25% discount on flood insurance premiums to properties in particular flood hazard areas.

As a part of the accreditation process for the CRS program, the City must provide a progress report on the Jefferson County Hazard Mitigation Plan. Access Arvada's Progress Report (PDF)
