The new aquatics facility that will replace the George J. Meyers Swimming Center brings about the opportunity for a new facility name. While the project is being referred to as the Meyers Pool replacement, this will in fact be a new facility.
The City of Arvada and our project partners at Jeffco Public Schools and Apex Park and Recreation have heard feedback from the community about a desire to potentially solicit a new name for this new facility. The facility will be an asset to Arvada and swimmers and divers across the region. The facility should have a name that reflects this and is responsive to the communities served by the new facility.
About the process
Team members from the City, Jeffco Schools, and Apex developed a list of potential names that would be appropriate. Top names were shared with current pool user groups to provide any additional names they would like to see considered.
The list of names being considered is reflective of preferred names from these project partners and pool user groups. The last day to complete the poll was Sunday, February 25. Thank you to all those who participated. Your feedback will be shared with the Arvada City Council to inform a final decision.
March 4: Following public feedback, the City team will present the options and feedback to the Arvada City Council during a workshop session.
March 5 - March 18: The public is invited to voice feedback about names directly to City Council.
March 18: City Council will vote on the name of the new facility during their regular business meeting.
