What Does the CERT Training Consist of?

The CERT Basic Academy consists of 24 hours of training time and is open to anyone at least 16 years of age, regardless of physical ability. At the Basic Academy, participants learn about:

  • Emergency preparations you can make in your home
  • Utility controls (gas, water, and electric) 
  • Fire safety and small fire suppression 
  • Search and rescue 
  • Emergency medical treatment
  • Terrorism
  • Disaster psychology
